In one of my classes last week, I was again reminded of the importance of something in Yoga. Progress over perfection. Each time we step on the mat it is good to gently remind ourselves of this.
The progress on our own individual journey we take is what really matters. We all start from different starting points.
We slowly work and discover things about our bodies and minds, what works, what makes us feel better.
We find what needs attention and we give it some time and love
Yoga is too about finding balance.
A balance between strength and ease.
Finding a little more strength and ease in the body, mind and breath.
Strength and ease in your muscles, connective tissue, joints and bones.
Strength and ease in your mind and being able to become present, quiet and peaceful.
Strength and ease in your breath and allowing the lungs to breathe fully, purposefully and calmly.
It's all about finding your balance! #yoga #keyworth #willoughbyonthewolds #balanc
Try not to worry about what you don’t have or where you should be.
Everything you need is right here within you.
Health, confidence, resilience, fulfilment.
Love, kindness, happiness and peace
It's all within you.
Listen in and seek within you.
And you shall find everything you need. #yoga #keyworth #everythingineedialreadyhave #listenin #seekwithinyou
I don't know about you, but I'm finding that creating some sort of routine and regular things to do for myself that are the same every week are really helping me in this time of uncertainty. It's definitely helping to keep me grounded and feel some sort of normality in this ever changing situation. How about you? Are you able to keep yourself feeling grounded at the moment? Yoga can help us find this sense of feeling grounded. The routine of it, but also when we practice yoga
There's a lovey quote that stuck with me this week... "You will never speak to anyone more than you speak to yourself in your head, be kind to yourself" We have so much internal dialogue with ourselves, about everything. Shaped by our environment, our experiences, our daily lives and what's happening in them at the time. These all shape our thoughts. About others, about ourselves. Somehow, we often find ourselves able to redirect our thoughts to kindness for others. But what
It all starts with the breath. We start by connecting with the breath. Noticing our breath. Our breath brings us into the present moment. When we tune into our breath, nothing else matters but our breath. Everything that's been going on in our life, everything that's stressing us out, everything that had our attention all day, positive and negative.... Nothing else matters but our breath. We begin to feel our body. We begin to feel the movement of our body. We begin to move w
This week we have been decluttering and simplifying in our house. It's an ongoing process, one we do many times a year in our family in an effort to lead a SIMPLE LIFE. But we're coming to realise, that it extends far past just decluttering and simplifying once in a while. It's a way of life, living it intentionally every day. Consciously thinking about how to not create clutter in the first place. Being selective in what we allow into our lives and what we do day in day out.
"Letting go is the hardest Asana" There have been times where I have done a complete Yoga practice only to realise that I have not allowed myself to let go and allowed my mind to let go and become quiet. Hands up if you have done this? ✋ What I mean by letting go is detaching yourself from your thoughts and becoming wholly present in your practice. Becoming at one with your practice. You see, thoughts have a mind of their own and always try and muzzle their way back into our
You might already know that one of the main reasons I got hooked on Yoga was the effect it had on my stress and anxiety levels. Unfortunately in today's way of life, a lot of us experience stress on a regular basis, where it is brought on by our environment, family, work or other reasons. And stress has such a dramatic affect on our health mentally, but also physically. It can manifest itself in all sorts of ways and cause other issues in our minds and bodies. So for me Yoga
So I have blogged recently about how yoga is good for physical strength of bones and muscles, and flexibility of muscles and soft tissue. But how else is a regular practice physically beneficial? Here are my top 14 physical benefits: 1. Builds strength in our bones and muscles 2. Increases flexibility of muscles and soft tissue to enable full joint range of movement 3. Encourages good blood supply to your spine 4. Increases heart rate and blood flow, and long-term reduces ove
Let me let you into a little secret... Did you know that the soul two purpose of practising yoga are: 1. To get our body healthy and without illness or injury so that we can sit in meditation for long periods of time without feeling uncomfortable? 2. To give our mind time to focus and be calmed and get a sense of stillness in the mind to prepare for meditation. Yes, our physical poses are great for keeping us strong, flexible and healthy, but they do have a deeper purpose. It
Ever feel guilty about taking time for yourself? You are not alone! Thousands of mum's out there feel this daily, including me! I myself have fallen foul of this and it's still something I am working on getting better at. I still have that guilt of not wanting to spend time apart form them and allowing myself time for me. Somehow we think that we are neglecting their needs if we do. From the moment our children are born, their life becomes our life. Our lives are forever inte
Want to glimpse what mental freedom feels like? Wouldn't it be lovely if sometimes our mind could be calm and quiet and we could just be. No thoughts Just be . . . Well you can! It's called becoming present. Yoga teaches us how to do this. When we go into a pose, we become fully present. We focus in on our pose and what our body is doing and feeling, we focus in on our breath and our mind becomes still. No thoughts, no stories, no expectations, no inadequacies, no planning, n
Last post I wrote about the 2 main reasons we work on physical strength in Yoga. See below link if you haven't read: https://www.namibyogi.co.uk/post/the-2-main-reasons-we-work-on-our-physical-strength-in-yoga Now onto flexibility. Firstly, what is flexibility? Flexibility is the range of motion in a joint or group of joints or the ability to move joints effectively through a complete range of motion. So if we don't keep our body flexible, then our joints become less able to
Happy International Yoga Day one and all! A day where people across the world come together to celebrate Yoga. And it got me thinking about what I think Yoga stands for in a tangible everyday life way. Here are the 4 words that resonate with me: Feel Worthy Feel Peaceful Feel Transformation Feel Freedom Feel Worthy Feel worthy of time for self care and your own well-being. Feel worthy and deserving of feeling good about yourselves. Feel worthy of that sense of choice and achi
1. Bone strength: Why is it important to keep our bones strong? 🧘🏻♀️ Our bones are living structures and are constantly being re-created. 🧘🏻♀️ Strong bones give our body structure 🧘🏻♀️ Strong bones protect our organs 🧘🏻♀️ Strong bones anchor muscles 🧘🏻♀️ Strong bones store calcium for the use of our cells and preventing injury. Most men and women reach their maximum bone density at around age 30. For women you can lose bone density rapidly in the few years afte
Do you feel sometimes that your mind has a mind of it's own? That it seems to think for itself, dwelling on something that has happened, figuring out something in the future, generally doing what it wants and is busy busy all the time? Ever wondered why you feel so peaceful after a yoga session? It's like magic isn't it? In Yoga, we practice the asanas (poses) to work the body of course, but also to calm the mind. We focus our gaze and always focus in on our breath and keep b
To all you lovely Keyworth and Willoughby ladies out there. Yes it is true, you are worthy of ME time! I know it can be really difficult sometimes, especially at the moment. I'm a mum of two small children and run a business and find it incredibly hard to find that time. But I do make this time for myself by either going for a run, doing some yoga or meditation, reading a good book or connecting with nature, because I know that I deserve it and I benefit so much from it! You
Some days something very simple can make us feel amazing. Sitting down and really appreciating a cup of tea, taking a mindful walk on the grass with bare feet, having a big bear hug from our children or partner. So my challenge to you this week is to see if you can make yourself feel amazing with Yoga. See if you can find a Yoga pose or Yoga breathing technique that makes you feel good. Have a tune into your body or mind and have a think how you and your body or mind are feel
We all get into Yoga for different reasons. Sometimes we fall into it, other times we are seeking something that will make us feel better. Sometimes we try it for one reason and can then end up feeling the benefits for different reasons. Sometimes it's an "aha!" moment you get in a class or it's more slow burning and after a while you have a moment where you realise that things have gotten better for you and wonder how long you've actually been feeling that way before realisi
