The 2 Main Reasons We Work on our Physical Strength In Yoga
Updated: Jul 29, 2020
1. Bone strength:
Why is it important to keep our bones strong?
π§π»ββοΈ Our bones are living structures and are constantly being re-created.
π§π»ββοΈ Strong bones give our body structure
π§π»ββοΈ Strong bones protect our organs
π§π»ββοΈ Strong bones anchor muscles
π§π»ββοΈ Strong bones store calcium for the use of our cells and preventing injury.
Most men and women reach their maximum bone density at around age 30.
For women you can lose bone density rapidly in the few years after menopause start.
Low bone density can lead to Osteoporosis (weakening of the bones)
What can we do to promote strong bones?
Doing weight bearing exercises like Yoga, eating a nutrient rich diet including calcium and getting the right amount of vitamin D.
2. Muscle strength:
Why is it important to keep our muscles strong?
π§π»ββοΈ Strong muscles increase ability to do simple everyday tasks without getting tired.
π§π»ββοΈ Strong muscles let you move your body freely.
π§π»ββοΈ Strong muscles help to keep our joints in good shape and free of injury.
π§π»ββοΈ Strong muscles help you keep your balance so you are less likely to trip or fall causing an injury.
π§π»ββοΈ Strong muscles enable good body posture.
π§π»ββοΈ Strong muscles keep ligaments, tendons and bones strong.
What can we do to promote strong muscles?
Working our muscles in physical exercise like Yoga, rest and a healthy balanced diet all help to keep our muscles healthy.
Also, always remember balance is the key. Yoga is about creating that balance and in this case, balance between strength and flexibility.
Next week I talk about flexibility.
But for now happy strengthening!
